andBeyond Mnemba Island
andBeyond Mnemba Island is the most coveted address in East Africa's ocean — a 1.5-kilometre circumference private island ringed by a protected coral reef. Just ten palm-thatched bandas sit directly on a powder-white beach, each with its own shaded private baraza overlooking the Indian Ocean. The experience is deliberately unplugged: no television, no pool, no crowds — only the sound of the reef, the rhythm of tides, and the near-constant company of green turtles, humpback dolphins, and more than 600 species of reef fish. The conservation work on Mnemba, in partnership with the Zanzibari government, has restored the surrounding marine protected area into one of the healthiest reef systems in the western Indian Ocean. Rates are all-inclusive, covering meals, house drinks, and most guided water activities.
