Rambagh Palace in Jaipur was the residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur until 1957, when it was converted into a hotel by the Taj Hotels group. The 78 rooms and suites are decorated with original royal furniture, hand-painted frescoes, and Rajasthani craft. The palace's gardens — 47 acres of manicured lawns and fountains — are the finest in Rajasthan. The Suvarna Mahal restaurant, in the original royal banquet hall, is the most magnificent dining room in India.
